Advice, or ongoing ownership?

Both can be valuable. The right starting point depends on whether you need help deciding what to do or help leading the work over time.

01

Choose consulting for a defined question.

A consulting project works well when the business needs a review, recommendation or clear deliverable. Examples include assessing distributor execution, setting channel priorities or building a commercial scorecard.

02

Choose leadership for an ongoing rhythm.

Fractional leadership adds a recurring management responsibility. It can include leading reviews, coordinating people, making agreed decisions and keeping priorities moving. The scope should describe what the leader actually owns.

03

Be explicit about authority and availability.

Before an engagement begins, agree the channels, geography, team responsibilities, decision rights, working cadence and availability. A fractional role is not a promise of unlimited coverage.

04

Start small enough to learn.

A scoped assessment can clarify the real gap. It may lead to a focused project, an ongoing leadership engagement or a recommendation to build internal capacity. There is no need to choose a large retainer before the need is clear.

Put it into practice

Four questions for your next conversation.
